“Father’s can’t always be there to protect their daughters, we want to, but we can’t. My wife and I wanted to give our daughter a gift that would last throughout her life. I grew up doing Taekwondo from 4 years old – it taught me confidence, discipline, respect, and self-defense. However, it wasn’t until later in life a friend of mine who is a Jiu-Jitsu instructor asked me to train with him one day that I realized how ineffective my Taekwondo skills were once things went to the ground. I am twice his size and I could not get him off of me.

“I’m a small business owner in Meridian and I began training at team rhino 3years ago. I wanted to learn BJJ since watching UFC2 when I was 13. I felt like my window to learn the martial art had passed since I was already in my late 30’s, however I came across a video narrated by Joe Rogan showing people, men and women in their 50’s and older trying it out and becoming hooked. I knew I wanted to try it out but didn’t know where to go. Oddly enough my brother, a certified strength and conditioning coach in COLORADO, said I had the good fortune-to live in the same town as one of the premier Bjj professors in the Pacific Northwest, I Professor Keith Owen ( yes I got a gym recommendation from a guy 900miles and 2 states away).
Professor Owen is one of the best all around teachers I’ve ever had for anything. His attention to detail is amazing. His gym is spotless and my teammates are not what you would expect. This is not an MMA gym, there is A very welcoming vibe and most of the people who train are a nice , humble bunch that will make you feel like family, but still are highly capable and technical when it comes to grappling.Jiu Jitsu didn’t save my life, it changed it into a life with living.
