In 1993, Keith and Shirlane Owen brought Jiu-Jitsu to Idaho, opening one of the state's very first academies in Twin Falls. They were building something from nothing at a time when most people in Idaho had never heard of Jiu-Jitsu.

Under the guidance of Master Pedro Sauer, Keith earned his 4th-degree Black Belt and built a reputation for technical excellence and real-world self-defense — not sport, not MMA. Professor Owen's curriculum was structured, simple, and effective for anyone, regardless of age or athletic ability.

After Keith's unexpected passing in February 2022, Shirlane and 20 dedicated instructors have continued his legacy. Today, Team Rhino remains Idaho's longest-standing Jiu-Jitsu academy with affiliates across the US and Canada.
