The way you start the day can set the tone for the rest of it. Here are a couple of ways to start your day with less stress and set the tone on a more positive note.
1. Do some prep the night before.
One way to start your day with less stress is to do some prep work the night before. Try to take care of anything that requires making a decision. That way, rather than facing an onslaught of decisions when you first wake up, you’ll have decided everything the night before. Prepare simple things, like what you’re going to wear or what time you’ll do your daily workout. Pack your gym bag, lunch bag, and /or work bag. Take care of anything that can be pre-prepped before you head to bed.
2. Decide not to hit the snooze button.
Most of us set our alarms with the intention of having plenty of time to get ready in the morning. This includes time to get ready, eat something, have some coffee, get in a workout, etc. And yet one simple button can rob us of all that time – the snooze button. Before you know it, “just a few more minutes” has you tearing around the house, rushing to get ready. As hard as it might be to stop the snoozing habit, it will give you precious stress-free minutes back in your day.
3. Pause notifications when possible.
When you’re planning out your day, it’s hard to focus when your phone or laptop keeps buzzing, pinging, and interrupting you. So if it’s possible, pause any incoming notifications, messages, and distractions until after you’ve made a plan for your day. Then once you have your priorities set, stick to them as much as you can.
