Recovering-after-Jiu-Jitsu-Team-Rhino-Gracie-Jiu-JitsuRecovery may not be the first thing you think of, but it plays a significant role in your Jiu-Jitsu training. Proper recovery and rest can be as important as the training itself. It can help you get results, prevent injury, and prepare you for your next class or workout.

Here are a few tips on recovering after Jiu-Jitsu:

1. Stretch and use a foam roller.

Basic stretching is one recovery method that you can use in conjunction with foam rolling after class. Even five or ten minutes of stretching and rolling after training can be enough to kick off the recovery process. It’s best to save stretching for after training when your muscles are warmed up. And foam rolling will help to circulate blood flow and promote an increased range of motion.

2. Drink plenty of water.

Another post-training recovery tip is to drink plenty of water. Your body relies on water to carry out important processes, so if you’re dehydrated, it has to work harder to repair itself after training. So keep a water bottle with you throughout the day and drink before, during, and after class.

3. Get a good night’s sleep.

One of the simplest ways to recover well after a tough training session is to get a night of quality sleep. Sleep is essential to the recovery process; it helps your body bounce back from the stress you put it through during the day, including your Jiu-Jitsu training.

4. Consider a rest day.

A consistent Jiu-Jitsu practice is a balance between training and recovery. As hard as it can sometimes be to take a day off from the mats, these rest days are essential. With intense training, take time to rest and counterbalance the work you’re putting in on the mats.

5. Keep it simple.

Your recovery from Jiu-Jitsu doesn’t have to be overly complicated or involve gadgets, supplements, or gimmicks. Keep it simple by taking care of your body. Remember that your food choices will affect your training and recovery. So, be mindful of what you’re eating and drinking. Get a decent amount of sleep and take the time you need to rest up, so you’re ready the next time you step onto the mats.
