Life-Lessons-Learned-from-Jiu-Jitsu-Team-Rhino-Gracie-Jiu-JitsuThe skills that you learn from Jiu-Jitsu extend beyond the mats. There are lessons that you can take beyond Jiu-Jitsu and improve the quality of your life.

Here are just a few of the life lessons learned from Jiu-Jitsu:

1. Know when to tap.

One life lesson you learn from your Jiu-Jitsu training is knowing when to tap. Sometimes, you need to push yourself a little further, and other times you need to check your ego and tap early.

Knowing when to tap on or off the mats means you understand when you need to put your head down and keep fighting for what you want. But you also know when the best move is to walk away from a situation.

2. Expand your comfort zone.

Throughout your Jiu-Jitsu training, you will put yourself in many uncomfortable positions and situations. But taking risks and putting yourself out there is a great way to expand your comfort zone.

To grow both in Jiu-Jitsu and in life, you have to be willing to make yourself uncomfortable. To do the things that are scary, intimidating, and unknown.

3. Manage your expectations and assumptions.

Another life lesson learned through Jiu-Jitsu is the value of managing your expectations and assumptions. In Jiu-Jitsu, someone’s size or your assumptions about their experience is never a good indication of what will play out on the mats. You will be humbled over and over when you’re submitted by someone smaller or unassuming. This can either be a surprise or a chance to learn.

Jiu-Jitsu teaches you to keep your expectations about your skills and assumptions about others under control. So, always look for opportunities to grow, develop your skills, and learn something new.
